Highlights: The Oswego-Fulton Buccaneer Raiders lost a close meet to the West Genesee Wildcats
on Tuesday night. The meet was so close that West Genny only outscored Oswego in six of the twelve
events.

West Genny was able to take the lead after a close win in the first event, the 200 medley relay.
Oswego's relay of junior Maya Upcraft, along with sophomores Mallory Upcraft, Grace Wing, and Becca
Stone (Fulton), posted a respectable 2:04.74, which was eclipsed by the Wildcat relay by a mere 6 tenths
of a second. Maya posted her fastest 50 butterfly split of the season (31.21) in the effort. Freshmen
McKenzie Partlow (37.88 breaststroke) and Emma Armet (32.23 freestyle), as well as seventh grader
Malia Upcraft (35.64 butterfly), all joined Maya in posting best times this season in the event.
The Lady Bucs surged back in the next event, the 200 freestyle, by taking first and second place.
Sophomore Sydney DeLapp took the win with a time of 2:01.95. Eighth grader Ciarrah Tynan touched
second with a personal best of 2:09.22. Sophomore Audrey Clark swam a good race as well, touching in
2:44.28, her best time. Following the freestyle event, Mallory Upcraft kept the Bucs in the meet with a win
in the 200 I.M. Notably, Armet posted another personal best with a 3:01.79 finish in the event.
West Genesee started to pull away in the next two events, the 50 freestyle and the diving
competition. This was despite the Buccaneers posting six best times in the 50 and both divers throwing
their highest scores ever. Senior Brittany Kaye (1:29.60), junior Mel Solano (32.61), freshmen McKenzie
Partlow (28.76), Angel Croci (36.84), and Callie Odom (36.86), as well as eighth grader Helena Holmes
(36.45), all swam their best times of the season in the 50. Then Holmes hopped on the board with
sophomore Evie Dickens and kept the magic going. Holmes took 3 rd overall with her best score by more
than 10 points (157.75), and is now less than 18 points from achieving the Sectional Championship
qualifying score in the event. Dickens was able to take 4 th place, finishing with a best score of 144.90,
outscoring West Genesee's 5 th place diver by a mere 3 points.
The Bucs fought back again by outscoring the Wildcats in the next event, the 100 butterfly. West
Genny won the event, but Oswego-Fulton took 2 nd (Maya Upcraft), 3 rd (Brenna Williams), and 4 th (Malia
Upcraft). Williams posted her best time in the 3 rd place effort, touching the wall in an impressive time of
1:20.79.

Following the butterfly event, West Genesee started pulling away from Oswego again, by winning
the 100 freestyle. The sixteen point lead they accumulated was starting to look insurmountable. Then
the Buccanner distance swimmers hit the water and rekindled hope among their teammates. DeLapp
posted her best time ever (5:35.46) to win the event. Tynan was hot on her heels, touching second in her
best time this season by more than ten seconds (5:39.81). Then Emma Armet surged to a 3 rd place finish
in only her second time racing the event. Both DeLapp and Tynan's times put them in the top ten in the
Section, and the 1-2-3 finish by the three athletes pulled the Bucs to within 6 points of West Genny.
Next up, Oswego's 200 freestyle relay team posted their best time by nearly two seconds
(1:47.75), but fell just short of the Wildcats and placed second. Tynan (26.0) and DeLapp (25.44) posted
their personal best times in the effort.
West Genny increased their lead with their relay performance, but the Lady Bucs wouldn't give
up. Becca Stone powered to a first place finish in the 100 backstroke, with Solano touching 3 rd , and Malia
Upcraft finishing 6 th in her best time of the season (1:31.06).
Then Mallory Upcraft (1:18.83), McKenzie Partlow (1:24.74), and Audrey Clark (1:36.17) all
posted their best times in the 100 breaststroke to try and keep Oswego-Fulton in the meet. Upcraft and
Partlow were 2 nd and 3 rd in the event.
The Lady Bucs would finish on a high note, winning the last event, the 400 freestyle relay.
Notably, Ciarrah Tynan completed her sweep of posting best times this season in each of her four events,
by completing her leg of the winning relay in a time of 58.56. It would not be enough to overcome West
Genny's lead, but it was a great way to end an impressive meet for both teams. I look forward to
competing against them at Sectionals next month and we will be preparing for a different outcome.
