Highlights: The Oswego Buccaneers kicked off an excellent post season with a State-Qualifying diving performance and many other best times and scores.  The Bucs placed 10th overall in the Class A meet based on these performances.
Sophomore Jack Tonkin had an outstanding Class A Championship diving meet.  His score of 454.35 was enough to secure him 3rd place overall, it was his best score ever, and the score qualifies him for the NY State Championship swimming and diving meet in March.  Junior Jake Smith also posted his best score at the meet. He took 11th in the event with a score of 345.30.

The Oswego swimming contingent kicked off their meet with a best time in the 200 medley relay.  The foursome of Tonkin and Smith, along with senior Casey DeLapp and eighth grader Treyse Miller dropped 3 seconds to place
11th overall.  Sophomores Tyler Tice (36.92 backstroke), Jacob Sledziona (30.83 butterfly), and Nate Dunn (29.87), along with senior Josh Evans (35.93 breaststroke) all posted best times as members of Oswego's "B" medley relay.
Casey DeLapp had the highest individual placings of all the Oswego swimmers.  He took 5th place in the 100 freestyle with his best time of 49.15 and 4th in the 200 freestyle with his best time of 1:49.15.  Both times are very close to the NY State Championship Meet cut times.

Treyse Miller also had an outstanding meet.  He placed 14th in the 200 I.M. with a best time of 2:17.56, and 12th in the 100 breaststroke with another best time of 1:09.18.
Tonkin took 25th in the 50 freestyle with his best time all season (25.02).  Nate Dunn had the biggest drop of the meet, placing 24th in the 500 after a drop of over 30 seconds to touch in 6:35.36.  Tice would end up going two for two with best times, after finishing 31st in the 100 backstroke (1:22.72).
Oswego's 200 freestyle relay team of DeLapp, Smith, Tonkin, and sophomore Curtis Kaye, placed 11th overall with their best time this season of 1:39.34.  A drop of over 2 seconds. Kaye posted his best 50 freestyle split ever in the effort (24.90).  Smith hopped back in the water soon after to place 16th in the 100 breaststroke with his lifetime best of 1:11.72.

Oswego's final swim would be a 12th place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.  Kaye, Sledziona, Dunn, and Miller finished with an impressive time of 4:03.83.  Kaye led off in his best 100 freestyle by 2 seconds (58.91). Sledziona dropped a few seconds to post a 1:00.61 for his split, and Miller anchored in his best time by nearly 3 seconds (57.37).

This was a great meet for us today and last Saturday for diving.  Having Jack and Jake start off with best scores in the diving competition, and Jack getting that NY State Meet qualifying score, really motivated the swimmers to push themselves in the pool today.  We had great swim after great swim, and I'm looking forward to coming back Saturday and going even faster!
